Move in

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my two years in California. This full post can be found here.

Another long day and all the sun has made me very very tired, even if I slept for probably 10 hours last night. I started the day by moving in to my room on campus. I got help from Johanna’s IPC (International Peerl Contact) (mine was in San Francisco) with moving my two suitcases to campus. Very very nice of her. I just put my things in my room, packed a beach bag and we all went to the IPC’s house so she could make breakfast to her roommates. After that she took me to Target to buy some bedding and needful things lige hangers and a blanket.

Right when we were done Johanna and one of her roommates came and picked me up and we went to Avila Beach which is the closest beach to SLO. It didn’t take more than 15 minutes to go there, but it would probably take 30-40 with a bike. It was not a huge beach and it had some seaweeds on it, but it was nice anyway. It felt so good being back on a Californian beach, even if the difference between San Diego and San Luis Obispo is pretty big. It was one of the most beautiful days up there people told me. My phone told me 29C and with the sea breeze it was perfect. The sky was completely blue and it was just a wonderful day. First we spent lika a couple of hours lying at the beach and going in the water. It was cold, but nice once we were in. Soon thereafter we went a little bit north of the beach where we rented stand up paddle boards (SUP). We had them for an hour and went along the coast to a lighthouse. On the way out we saw a lot of seals, sea lions and some pelicans. The seals were actually right off the beach where people were. Curious little things. One of the seals also came up like two meters in front of my board and I got so surprised I almost fell in (which I never did during that whole hour). It was kinda like on Hawaii, but with seals instead of giant turtles, which by the way gave me the same reaction.

I was really exhausted after that. Both from the hard workout, but also from being out in the sun for so long (4 hours maybe?). I haven’t been out in the sun for that long since Hawaii in January!

I did get burned today. In my face and on my chest. Even though I put sunscreen on three times! This is a sign that I need my Beach Defense SPF 30! Nivea sun 20 isn’t good enough. When I went to Target yesterday they were out of stock. And I forgot to look for it today. I will need to buy that as soon as possible unless I want to look like a crayfish.

Avila Beach

I got driven home where I put my bedding on the bed which wasn’t very easy (completely unnecessary by the way to bring my own sheets), but I succeeded eventually. The bed is very hard though so I hope I won’t have trouble sleeping. I haven’t unpacked anything else of my things yet. I am too tired. I have been trying to get my phone to know that I am in the US instead of in Sweden, because I can’t download important apps. It worked out eventually after a phone call with google and a lot of googling before that.

I also had a lot of troubles with connecting to the WiFi here. My computer’s been acting weirdly with new WiFi’s. With my deep-buried computer skills I solved it both at the hostel and here. I still haven’t gotten it to work on my phone, but that’s because of another reason. I hope I can get it to work soon, the data reception isn’t that good in here.

Kitchen + living roomI am standing right inside of the door to the apartment and this is the kitchen and the living room. To the right is a corridor with four locked bedrooms and two bathrooms. My messy roomThis is my bedroom right when I moved in with all my stuff. I am too tired to unpack anything yet. Maybe tomorrow or the day after that (depending on what WoW offers tomorrow night). View from my windowThe view from my room, it could definitely be worse :).

I am alone tonight, the other girls are coming tomorrow or the day after that, I don’t really remember when. I have lots of things to do tomorrow again. First get my American bank account, then I need to check in at the international center, then get my PolyCard, then check in to Week of Welcome and start the WoW activities at 2pm. I have also been invited to frat parties this week by one of Johanna’s IPC’s roommates. That will be fun ;).

Now I will go to bed for the first time in my new bed!

Lunch with my brother

Yesterday I got up at 8:30 to put the meat in the oven. Felix and his girlfriend Sara was coming over to take a look at the apartment and eat lunch with me. Pulled cow was as good as pulled pork and they decided to take the apartment. Before they left they had applied for a couple of courses at Gothenburg University which is needed to stay in this apartment, even if it is just for ten months. I am relieved that this worked out, even if my brother wasn’t too excited about taking a German class in addition to all the other courses he will take at another school (which for some reason doesn’t count).

For the rest of the day I installed some computer games and played. I installed World of Goo and Spore. I played Spore until 3am last night which was a bit stupid. It is a fun game, but I can’t remember how to play the tribe stage. I don’t remember anything about it!

And speaking of computer games. The Sims 4 was released today! I am seriously thinking about buying it.

Today I was up early as well to do another interview for Cultural Care. On my way home I decided it was time to go to Liseberg and empty my locker.

At home I had leftovers from yesterday’s lunch and then I’ve played more Spore and also a bit RollerCoaster Tycoon 1. Then I got bored and watched Maleficient. That movie was amazing! So extremely sad and had kinda the same story as Frozen. Not an evil person, but a good person turning evil for a while. If you haven’t seen it, you all definitely should!!

Now I will actually go to bed. I didn’t get much sleep last night and dad is gonna come over pretty early with some boxes and something from grandma and grandpa. I wonder what it is! He was actually here today with some wooden plates to put on the floor in the basement to avoid water damages whenever there’s a leakage which happens now and then.

Media station

This has been a very happy day! My router is up and running and I plugged in my TV and I have an awesome media stationin the corner of the apartment.I got the brilliant idea of keeping my old and half functioning computer and always have it plugged in the TV so I don’t have to move the new one around as soon as I want to watch something or listen to music from good speakers.

I started the day with getting my resume looked at by a proffesional. I got a lot of tips and should probably make those changes before I forget what it was. Then I went to pick up my five Hawaii canvas paintings I ordered online last Thursday. On my wayhome from that I bought a semla. It’s Fat Tuesday today, and one have to eat a semla. I took something called vanilla semla and that wasn’t as good as the regular one. It was a vanilla cream instead of almond paste.

Mom came by later, driven here by my brother who just got his drivers license. Big congrats to him! She helped me with that stupid router of mine. We came to the conclusion that something was wrong with it so we called my brother, who went back home, and he drove back and gave us another router, and that one worked! It’s old and not very stable, my Spotify pauses now and then, but it’s better than nothing!

When we were done with that we plugged in my TV and fixed everything with that. When mom left again I decided to have the sound system with the TV and that was the best decision I did today. So much better!! And with my old computer plugged in to the TV I can listen to music via the TV. I am transferring all my TV-shows and movies to that computer right now. USB 2 is really slow. But it will be so awesome when it’s done. I love my apartment! And with the paitings up it got even better!! I also have one of San Diego skyline on the way which will probably come up over the kitchen table.

I am not done unpacking and I am not sure I will be tonight either. I am really tired. But I don’t have anything planned tomorrow, so you never know.

Media station The books are pretty much the only thing I have to unpack now.Hawaii paintingsMy own pictures from Hawaii are perfect above the couch.

New TV

Another fullpacked day. It takes so much time to move. Today I got up at 8am to try to wash the cover and pillows and it worked. At 1pm I had an interview and at 2pm I had a meeting at Chalmers. Right after that I printed my resume for tomorrow’s scrutiny. A company is coming to Chalmers tomorrow to take a look at resumés and give tips.

To mom, and take the car. She actually came along. First stop, IKEA to buy some hangers/gallows whatever they are called. But you can’t just go to IKEA for one thing. I had a bunch of things when I was done…

Second stop was Maxi where I, once again, bought some food. And third stop Siba where I wanted to take a look at a TV. It seemed nice so I bought it. A 40″ Philips.

But I can’t really do anything with it right now. I need to get my router to work first because the Internet hole i the wall is right behind the big furniture the TV’s gonna be on later. And that fucking router refuses to work and I’ve been in a really bad mood tonight because of it. I have Internet if I use the cable directly from the hole to my computer, but when I plug the router in it doesn’t work. The router works, all the correct lights are on with the right color, but I can’t reach routerlogin.net where I need to configure the stupid thing. I think it might be because Bredbandsbolaget (my Internet Service Provider) wants to give me a username and password (which 1st, theyshould have given me on like last Thursday and which 2nd shouldn’t be needed since I already have Internet). This is all so retarted and confusing. It’s free for fuck sake!! It shouldn’t be this complicated when I don’t even pay for it. STUPID!!

I’ll call those assholes tomorrow and I sure hope they have a sollution to this ridiculous problem.

Unpacking

I didn’t sleep very well, first I had a nightmare about me not getting that job at Liseberg. And second, it wasn’t very comfortable sleeping on couch pillows and with blankets. But tonight will be different because I went to mom and picked some things up. For example an ethernet cable so I will be able to plug in my router, which I think I can do now, but I have no idea how to do it. I will take a look at it tomorrow. I also got my Picasso paintings, salt, a scale and a lamp.

My first errand was Inet where I bought a sound system. It was way more fun unpacking today with music coming out of good speakers. Then I went to Ica Maxi where I just walked around for a while, thinking what I should get. I only have the basic stuff, but I seriously don’t know what I need. I guess it will come eventually when I want to start cooking.

My third and last stop of the day was at IKEA where I bought a new rug, some candles, new plates, a plant and a lint roller.  And for lunch I had a 5kr hotdog.

My brother gave me a ride back to my place after I went to mom’s place. He has his behind the wheel test on Tuesday so he is out practice driving as much as possible. I just hope he will let me borrow the car tomorrow afternoon. I forgot to buy  gallows. After unpacking all mu clothes just now I realized I’m missing A LOT of gallows!

I’ve been unpacking like crazy since I got home. And I don’t have that much left now. I can’t see the kitchen table because of the layer of stuff on it. And I haven’t put anything in my bookshelves yet, but I will wait with that until I’ve bought a TV. I will probably have to move them around.

It’s time to go to bed now. I have to be up at 8 to try to wash the blanket and pillows and then I have an interview at 1pm and then a meeting at Chalmers. So much to do all the time.

Moving day

I’m finally back in my own apartment and it feels so good! But I am also exhausted like never before… My whole body hurts after carrying boxes up and down stairs (and I guess last nights “workout” is starting to feel too) and unpacking. I’ve been unpacking since 3pm and no one can tell that I’ve done anything. A few boxes are gone but there is still soooo much to do!

With mom’s tiny Renault Clio it took me and Chad 4 turns back and forth dropping of stuff. That’s pretty impressive! That car is way bigger than most think. If I didn’t have his help this would have been so much harder, probably impossible.

I did some grocery shopping so I have a little food at least. I also did a few hours of laundry. I wrapped my alcohol in my clothes and one of the bottles leaked. It’s a good thing nobody in this house ever do laundry, and that we have two laundry rooms on top of that.

More things than I knew about were lost in the big basement flooding. Like a lot of lamps which I noticed when it got dark outside. My pillow and comforter were in a plastic bag during the event. They don’t smell so bad, but they are all yellow and just looks disgusting, and that faint moldy smell isn’t particuarly nice. So tonight I will have to sleep with my blankets and couch pillows. Mom will be over tomorrow and give me a new set. She will also give me an extra ethernet cable so I can plug in my router. I have access to internet if I have my computer connected straight to the wall. I seriously can’t wait until I canhave my computer by a desk again. It’s been way too long (beginning of January!!).

I have a few things that I really need to do before going to bed and that is to find my phone charger, put away all the tons of clothes in my bed and pick up the last of the laundry in the basement. I will definitely sleep like a baby tonight!

My new/old apartment!
