Volvo Ocean Race In-Port Race

Sorry blog for being a bit inactive this week but it has been a very weird week. I have had a very annoying cold, still have. And I have been busy with trying to find scholarships, unpacking and just doing stuff. I don’t even know, but I’ve been busy.

On Wednesday I went downtown and met up with Axel for the first time since November when I briefly saw him in LA. We went for a fika and it was so nice to see him again!

Thursday, hmm, nothing I think? Friday evening was movie night with Axel and two of his cool friends. We had dinner at Danilo first, the restaurant inside the movie theatre. And then we saw Mad Max. It was an okay movie, but it was kinda long. But it was a fun evening and I liked his friends.

I couldn’t fall asleep last night because my heels were itching from the blisters after diving and Stuff went crazy in my boxes in my room. I don’t know what she did but she made hella lot of noise and I couldn’t fall asleep until like 4am. I closed the door, I thought, but they opened it and I found them in my room when I woke up. Next time I will have to make sure that it is 100% closed if I want it closed, haha. Sneaky cats… Not always nice and cuddly.

This morning I had to set an alarm. Mom, Axel and I were going to Långedrag to watch the In-Port Race in Volvo Ocean Race. Oscar II’s Fort was only open to SCA employees and their family. So we got really good seats and could see the whole race from the cliffs. I have never been out there so it was the start on my #TouristInGöteborg summer. It was also nice to see part of the Gothenburg archipelago again.

It was a grey day, but not too cold, and it only drizzled a little bit so we didn’t even get wet. It was actually a nice day. The SCA boat came in second in the race today and third in the whole In-Port Race part of Volvo Ocean Race (6/7 in the big competition). Not too bad. The Crown Princess of Sweden was on the SCA boat today, pretty cool.

After the competition I was super tired, but I had stuff to do today again. So no nap for me. I got my transcript from Cal Poly today so I emailed Chalmers, but the guy who is supposed to put my grades in the system is on vacation until August 10. That’s not good because I need my proof of graduation as soon as possible so I can apply for scholarships, and it can also be problematic with CSN (financial aid) if all my classes are not there soon. So I emailed another person and I hope she can help me with this.

Then I also sent in my grades to the university application website and I hope I will get accepted to the German class. It can also be problematic since I don’t have any grades from previous German studies here in Sweden. But I’m sure that will work out too.

Lastly, what I’ve done today is finish the travel report Johanna and I had to write about this year at Cal Poly. It turned out good I think. And when that one is approved we will get the last piece of our grant from Chalmers, 2500 SEK will be nice in September.

And now I will install The Sims 4, cross my fingers that it works, and play some before going to bed. Tomorrow mom and I are going down to the harbor again to get onboard the sailing boats, that will be fun.

Bvball, surfing, Fair, Cinépolis

Wow, what a weekend. I am exhausted out of my mind, but what a fun and eventful weekend. Yesterday was a long day and it started with 3 hours of beach volleyball at South Mission Beach. I didn’t play well at all in the beginning, but I got better and I had a great time. Next up was surfing at La Jolla Shores, we were in the water for 2 hours. I have definitely surfed better, but I blame the waves this time, they were really bad. But I caught some and stood up for at least a few seconds every now and then. I thought it was fun.

Google Photos is really cool! It puts pictures from the same geographical place in an album, it creates photo sequences if there are a lot of similar pictures. Or adds effects o pictures, or does this. Pretty cool!IMG_20150613_131918-PANOIMG_20150613_180415 IMG_20150613_182230 IMG_20150613_182819

Third stop of the day was La Jolla Cove. I was hoping to see lots of sea lions like almost exactly two years ago. But we saw just a few. The whole cliff area was changed, and maybe that’s why they left? I hope they were just playing underwater instead, I would be so happy if I could see some while scuba diving this week.

Back to the hotel to shower, then off to San Diego County Fair where we walked around for a couple of hours. It was pretty much exactly the same as two years ago, but it was fun. There were many animals, both small and big, endless with food stands and everything else that has to do with a fair.

IMG_20150613_205258 IMG_20150613_211511 IMG_20150613_213116

Worth mentioning is that yesterday was my big day of luck when it comes to parking. Four times in a day we were extremely lucky and got one of the best spots on four very busy locations. Fist in Mission Beach, then La Jolla Shores, then La Jolla Cove, and at the Fair. I definitely used all my parking luck in one day, so that won’t ever happen again.

At 11pm we left the fair and drove to Del Mar where we spent two hours watching Jurassic World. A great movie, and a great experience watching it at a luxury cinema. The movie started at midnight and was about two hours long. Got back to the hotel at 2:30am and the alarm went off at 6:30 today. You could say that I was tired. And all I did today was play a beach volleyball tournament in Mission Beach. It was a draw 4 vs 4 tournament and I had so much fun all day with some of the people from bvball at South Mission Beach yesterday. You had a partner throughout the first four games and played with a different coed couple in each game. I played with a guy named Bart, and the first game we lost really bad, but we won the last three. I was the setter and everyone loved my sets, and I have to say that they were pretty damn good today! And very many people I’ve never met before acknowledged that, it made me happy.

I was apparently one of the better players with most points in the whole tournament, so after the group plays, the best players in the epic division (the better one) got a buy (was that how it was called?) which means that I automatically won the first game in the playoff. Then there was the awesome division (the not as good division) and the best people in that one won there too. Unfortunately I had to wait for at least two hours before playing the semifinal with a new bunch of people. I had lost it, we were rotating (instead of me setting the whole game), and we lost with 25-17 (we were playing one set to 25). But I am not too sad about it, I was very tired at the end. Michael drove me up to Carlsbad where he helped me in with my suitcases. We said goodbye and I took a shower. I am embarrassed to say that I very much forgot about sunscreen today. It was so cloudy today (June Gloom) and not very warm. It was fine to play in shorts and a tank top. But anyway, I got so burned! My shoulders and especially my face. That sunglass tan is never going away now. It looks horrible…

I have lots of aloe vera on it, so I hope it will at least be better tomorrow. I don’t know what I will do yet tomorrow, I might go to Victoria’s Secret to buy some underwear, I will definitely sleep in first though. I will need a lot of sleep now. And now, I am in bed, and will watch the season finale of Game of Thrones!

Home

Tonight was a roommate night. We hung out in the living room for a couple of hours before we went downtown where we went to the movie theatre and watched the new DreamWorks movie Home with Jim Parsons as the lead voice. We were the only ones in the whole room and that was kinda nice actually. The movie was super cute and I am glad we watched it. Afterwards we drove to Albertson’s where I bought butter for the banana bread. We have so many frozen bananas so I thought it was time to bake again. This time it turned out the best yet, and one of our neighbors, Cody, said that with chocolate chips in it, it would have been the best banana bread he ever had. It was really good. This time I took ¾ cup normal white sugar and ¼ brown sugar instead of just all white sugar. It turned out pretty well.

This whole day (well, after I woke up at noon) I was at the pool with a bunch of guys from the building. It was a very nice day and I got a lot of reading done. 40 more pages and I am done with the first Artemis Fowl book. For some reason it takes longer to read a page in this book than in any other book I read. I think I have to switch page more times per actual page, if that makes any sense. eReaders.

Last night I spent $275. In a month I will take a scuba certification class at Cal Poly. This school is so cool, they offer so many untraditional classes. I was planning on shaping my own surfboard, but it would have been too much to take home. There are ceramics classes, chocolate classes, salsa dancing. During five days in May I will be at the Rec Center pool and out in the ocean to get my scuba certification. I am so excited!!

Now it is very late, and I am seeing double and this banana bread coma is not helping. Goodnight!

Hike and drive-in movie

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my two years in California. This full post can be found here.

The summer keeps going on and I love it. I slept until noon today (I didn’t end up in bed until 3am). I was planning on doing laundry but realized I would barely make it til 2pm when we were going on a hike. So I postponed it once again. But tomorrow morning it will most definitely happen.

At 2 we were a bunch of people hiking up to Serenity Swing. It was the perfect day for a hike, the sun was out, but not too warm. The hike was not too bad, but we did take shortcuts over the hills and that was hard on my calves. But I survived. We will see how bad they are tomorrow. The view from the top was amazing as last time. Except this time it was greener. So very very pretty.

The way back was hard on the thighs since it was downhill all the way. I didn’t have much time at home after that before Matt picked me up. We went to Sunset drive in. I have never been to one before, but it was really cool. He had borrowed his mom’s car in which you can take down the back seats so you can lay down. He had a lot of blankets and it was very romantic. We saw two movies, Taken 3 and Unbroken. The first one was okay, but the second one was really good. Extremely sad, but a very good movie.

After he dropped me off I hung out with Toby, David, and Rachel for a bit, but now it is definitely time to go to bed. School tomorrow again. Today we were off because of Martin Luther King day. I like these American holidays!

The Wedding Ringer

This day started horribly, but turned better. My classes went well, Toby joined me for my German class and really enjoyed it, and so did the teacher. I love my German teacher, he is the best! Then I had a late lunch with Toby out in the sun at the UU Plaza, and then an hour of working on a Public Transportation project. The presentation is next Thursday and the report is due the week after. We did most of the presentation today, feels great!

Back home, had dinner and then watched a couple of episodes of The 100 and used Uber for the first time. Great idea with private taxi drivers. Toby and I went to the movies to see The Wedding Ringer, better than I expected. Probably nothing I would pay money for to see at the movies, but it was student price Thursday and it was fun to go out for a bit.

Now I will go to bed, with an empty mind (no school things to do this weekend, yay!) and go for a run with Toby tomorrow when I wake up without an alarm. Some VS shopping with my roomies after that and bowling in the evening, a good start on this weekend!

Goodnight!

Mockingjay Part I

This morning I was supposed to get up at 9am to study and be productive. But instead, I snoozed for two hours and did laundry. My bed is way too comfortable with this memory foam mattress. (Not complaining, I LOVE MY BED)

Kelsey and I went to the movies today and we saw, like you probably guessed, Mockingjay Part I. It was a long time ago I read the books but I loved the movie and it felt like it was very similar to the book. Well, the first half of the book. I am glad I know what will happen, otherwise I would go nuts with that ending.

Before that we went to Target, where I bought a few things, chocolate included, but also snacks for my long airplane ride in two weeks. I realized today that I won’t have meals served and it is 13 hours so I need something. I bought bars and that should work with the occasional coffee on the layovers.

I tried to study some, but gave up before I even started. I did finish my study guide for Sustainable Environments, so something got done. I might do something tomorrow before Kelsey and I leave for Los Angeles. I am excited for that trip. I think I will be able to update, but if not, I will be back in SLO Friday afternoon for a whole weekend of alone-time and studying.

Frozen

I had a very nice evening tonight with my mom and three of her friends. First we went to Max to have real Swedish hamburger. I just love those burgers! At 6:30pm the movie started at Bergakungen movie theatre. We saw it in 3D and English. And for once I didn’t have to focus on the Swedish subtitle. Felt really nice to just watch the movie!

The movie was so good! I think it is one of the better Disney movies. And it was beautiful. I don’t like cold, but I have to admit that ice and snow is pretty! I also totally understand why the song “Let It Go” is nominated for a Oscar for Best Original Song.

After the movies we all went to Bishops Arms, my first time ever being there. Mom was so kind and bought me a Somersby cider. It was very nice and we didn’t stay too long which was good. I was tired.

But I’m not going to bed just quite yet. Tomorrow I’m going to dad’s girlfriend’s son’s birthday party and I’ve been asked to put my best photos from last year on a USB stick and have them roll on the TV. So I have to pick them out. I’m about halfway done. So many pictures. So many pictures…
