Swarm of bees

Today I experienced something again for the very first time. There’s a lot of firsts here! Me and the boy spent the morning at the soccer field in a community park and while we were there playing around I heard this buzzing sound. When I looked closer at the boy who had the boy I saw a big and black cloud closing in on him from behind. It was like a thousand bees! They came straight toward me and I had no idea what to do so I just stood there watching the panic rise in the boys eyes. He didn’t freak out as much as I was afraid of, I don’t think it’s good to run around crazily when you have a swarm of bees around you. Before I knew it the bees where gone, they just flew right pass us without stinging either of us. Now at the dinner table my host-dad told me that they do that when there are too many bees in the behive and half of them have to move. Understandable, but a little scary when you’re in their way!

In my freetime today I read in the backyard. Only 400 pages left now! I hope George R.R. Martin hurries on the last two books so I don’t forget too much.

The weather today was awesome! 80F which is almost 27C. Tomorrow’s going to be even warmer, up to 91F! And on Monday it’s gonna be rainy again and down to 66F. The weather here sure is various.

In the afternoon we baked peanut butter/chocolate chip cookies. They were really good! And after that we went out on the street throwing frisbees. And I found out that five houses up the street there is an american nanny. That is really nice :).

My tattoo still hurts and I can’t remember that my other one did that for so many days. It is also still covered with scabs of color. My other one has only thin lines so the scabs fell off very easily in the shower but this just sticks to the skin and looks like a sticker on the skin. I hope it heals soon so I can continue with my exercise!

Swedish theatre

A new week has begun and will soon be over too, like all the other weeks. I feel like it is both weekdays and weekends all the time. At the same time! It’s such a weird feeling and I know that I’ve written in like a million times but I can’t grasp the flow of time anymore. In one week it’s already been four months!!

Today was like most days, except that the weather was really cold. I was hoping that it would get better after lunch as it normally does, but no. It was cloudy and cold all day which wasn’t so nice at Swedish School where all the parents wait outside. It was Swedish School today instead of Thursday because of a Swedish theatre that were playing tonight. It was about magicians and was definitely meant for kids, but it was okay.

In my freetime I went to the Victoria’s Secret store here in Carlsbad to return my bikini that I ordered online. It was easy to just go there, return the clothes and order new ones. And I will even get $5 back for bigger sizes of the same bikini. Awesome!

Then I went home, took a quick shower and then picked up the kids from school and now I’m ready to go to bed, early for once :).

Palm tree tattoo

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my two years in California. This full post can be found here.

Now it’s done, my second tattoo is decorating my body. The more I look at it the more I love it. It’s a tiny palm tree on the inside of my wrist. I was a little skeptical to color at first, but now I’m glad I did it in color, it would have been super boring in black.

Vasoula accompanied me, Maj called me right before my appointment and said she had to work but we were more than welcome to her house after. Chris, the guy who did it, was really nice and did a really good job. He has been a tattooer for nine years and really knows what he is doing. I got a little nervous when he took out a Sharpie pen, a really thick pen and started to draw a palm tree after a quick look at the picture I brought. And then he started and it turned out really pretty. Dark colors which is what I wanted and small details. I love the tree trunk. I was a little afraid that it would hurt on the wrist because of the think skin but it wasn’t so bad. It hurt a little, but only for 25 minutes.

We drove to Maj’s house and stayed there for a while talking. Too bad she had to work. She told us about a music festival close to where she lived but we couldn’t find it so we decided to go to Coronado Beach instead. It was windy but really nice. Jessica came and met us there and we stayed for almost three hours. Then back home, some fixing at the computer and now it’s time for bed.

The pool

Today was the community garage sale so my host family had put out a lot of old and outgrown clothes on the driveway this morning. For once I was up at 9am to go to the gym but I couldn’t drive out with my car. So I decided to go to the pool instead. When I got there at 10:30 I was all alone and was pretty much alone for two hours. I read a lot, did a little swimming, 20×2 lengths in the pool. I think the pool was about 20-30m. And I also slept a little. In the afternoon all the kids came and I had to change the sound of screaming peacocks to my relaxing playlist in my phone.

In total I was at the pool by myself for six hours. It was a really nice day. I had sunscreen on my whole body and didn’t get burned anywhere except for a few places on the back where the girl missed when she helped me. I also forgot my face because I normally use Proactivs’ sunscreen. So I got pretty red, but not as bad as it could have been. Good thing I already have a decent tan. And I have a really good aloe after sun cream.

When I got home I took a shower and then got picked up by Jessica and Pernille. We drove to Vasoula and Anna and then to San Diego to get to the big paint party. But when we got there we were told it was sold out so we drove home again.

Probably for the best since everyone were really tired.

Behind the wheel test – PASS

I just got home from a super nice dinner in Del Mar with my friends. My last LCC meeting were held in a park in Del Mar and on the way there I saw these super cute restaurants along the road and was thinking that I really wanted to go there someday. That someday was today. I had no idea where we were going but when I got there I got happy. There were pretty lights everywhere and the food was really good. We went to an Italian restaurant called Il Fornaio. I couldn’t decide what to take so after a long time of thinking I took the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese.

Everyone was super tired after a week of work. More tired than usually for some odd reason… So we drove home after the dinner but we decided to go to a paint party in San Diego tomorrow, that’s gonna be super fun! Me and Jessica, the travel freaks asked around if someone wanted to go to Universal Studios next Saturday and it turned out that the Danish girl she brought from Ramona is going there that day with Maj. What are the odds?! So they are gonna unrent their car and we are going all four in Jessica’s car instead, way cheaper! So much going on all the time :).

And tomorrow in the day, there is a big garage sale in our neighborhood. I’ve heard it’s gonna be quite chaotic, but it’s gonna be fun to experience a real American garage sale. My host kids have picked out a lot of outgrown clothes they are gonna sell tomorrow.

Okay, and now to the biggest thing that happened today! My freetime was spent at the DMV office in Oceanside. First I got there extra early so I had time to take a new photo for my driver license. Then I had to stand in a short line to let them know that I was there and ready for my behind the wheel test.

My hostmum drove me to the driver test line where we waited for the examinator. I was kinda afraid of what kind of person I would get. Karin told me that hers where a super grumpy man. But when he came there laughing and started to talk with us it felt much better. He was really nice and told me that it was natural to be nervous but that I just should do my best. The test was about ten minutes. Plus five minutes in the beginning in the car where he asked me to point out stuff in the car. No errors! I did get six errors on my driving though. It felt like I drove perfectly, but I missed the signal when I was parking, which I never do when I’m driving alone, I ALWAYS use the signal, even when I’m alone on the road. And he told me that I missed checking behind my shoulder a few times. And on the notes afterward I saw that he didn’t think that I used the brake when I made a right turn. But if I’m going slow enough I don’t have to hit the brake. You could have 15 errors so I guess I did pretty well anyway. I passed, and that’s the most important thing!

In two-three weeks time I have my California driver license! Yeay! 😀

Swedish school

I forgot to write something last night. For me it was huge and I can’t believe I forgot about it. I drove all the way to Karin in Del Mar yesterday without using the GPS. I also drove to UCSD without it and then home. That felt really good. Now I don’t only feel comfortable driving in Carlsbad, but in San Diego too. Awesome!

Today I went to the gym in the afternoon and that was pretty much it today. I’ve been super tired for unknown reasons. I am really looking forward to the weekend so I can rest a little. I don’t have so much planned except for a dinner tomorrow right after work with some girls, maybe going to the beach on Saturday and the tattoo on Sunday. Palm tree on the wrist it is :).

Directly after school me and the kids went to Swedish school. If it’s nice weather it’s really nice sitting there for two hours while the kids learn about Sweden. Me and Jessica changed our Phoenix plans to the second weekend in June instead of last weekend of May. Don’t think it will be too hot, I hope not, I like warmth. We also talked about maybe going to Six Flags or Universal Studios next weekend.

Now I’m gonna go to bed and mentally prepare for tomorrow!! Wish me luck 🙂

Class no 4

Since last time I wrote not much has happened. The weather has been kinda crappy. I worked out yesterday for the first time since my last PT. I had my fourth class at the University tonight. Vowels were on the schedule today. We have a lot of them in the Swedish language so I didn’t really have any troubles with it. But it is a little hard with the ”schwa” (the ”e-sound” in ”the”) and u as in put. But I think it automatically will be better the longer I stay here. It’s gonna be interesting seeing my grade in nine weeks.

I’ve been preparing for my behind-the-wheel test on Friday so now I feel very comfortable. I didn’t know exactly where all the buttons were in the car, like the defroster. I’m never gonna use it here but I still have to point it out during the test. Kinda stupid!

I’ve also been thinking a lot about my tattoo. I have two that I really like but it’s hard to decide which one. I think the palm tree on the inside of the wrist is in the lead though.

My hostdad is out of town again which means a little more work for me, but that’s nothing I can’t do! Tomorrow after school I’m taking the kids to Swedish school by myself for the first time. Hope it’s nice weather so I can sit out in the sun with Karin and Jessica!

Now it’s definitely time to go to bed, good night!

A Swedish weekend

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my two years in California. This full post can be found here.

This was a really nice weekend. It started with that luxury cinema on Friday, continued with shopping, a birthday dinner at Cheesecake Factory and party at Stingaree, and ended with a day at the beach. Awesome!

Yesterday I got home really really late after an amazing evening. It began at 1pm at the tattoo studio in San Diego I found online. It seemed like a nice place so I made an appointment for next Sunday, exciting! I had picked up Karin earlier and we two drove to Fashion Valley. After a while Jessica joined us and eventually Giorgia. I did a little shopping, as usual. First I bought a new mascara from Clinique at Bloomingdale’s. Probably the first and only time I’ll ever shop at that store. And then I bought a jeans skirt and a green shirt from Hollister. A small purse from Guess and a belt that I used as a strap for the tiny purse. I also tried on a bikini at Victoria’s Secret that I late last night ordered online, they don’t have my size in stores… Since I’m gonna be spending a lot of time at the beach here I need more than one bikini. So I actually also found one at Abercrombie that I also will order online because I have 40% off.

At 8:30pm we got our table at the Cheesecake Factory. It was Karin’s birthday and it’s not an uncommon thing to eat at the Cheesecake Factory at your birthday. I think I heard four birthday songs last night.

I love that they have the Skinnylicious menu. My dessert this time was a chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake. And it was as good as the other ones. Karin had a cheesecake with a cherry on top, she gave it to me and I tried making a knot on the stem with my tongue and I actually did it.

Jessica and Giorgia are under 21 so unfortunately they couldn’t go with us to downtown. So me and Karin went to my car, changed, and met Victoria there. She was working until 10pm. I drove to downtown and we spent the rest of the night at Stingaree again. Last night it was way better music and I had flat Ecco sandals, so my feet were super comfortable the whole night. Awesome and so much more fun! We found out that the nightclub is a three level nightclub with the top floor on the roof. It was really nice up there!

I drove Karin home and got home to Carlsbad around 3:30am. I was too tired to get up at 9 to work out, so I skipped it again. On Tuesday it begins!

Today I picked up Jessica in Del Mar and we drove to Coronado beach. It was a really beautiful day today. A little windy but it was not especially cold. We lay at the beach for a long while before Karin and Victoria got there. Super awesome! From now on I’m gonna be spending my weekends on the beach instead of spending money. I have a lot I want to do, for example a weekend in Phoenix next month.

The later it got, the colder it got. So at 5 we went back to the car with all of our stuff and found a pizzeria and shared two pizzas. Back home and now it’s late again. I don’t understand how time can just fly by when you sit by the computer! But now I have a hum about what to do in Phoenix.

It’s super late, I am supposed to get up really early tomorrow so I have to keep this short.

Today’s big thing was that I went to the movies with Jessica, Karin and Victoria. But it wasn’t just any movie theatre. We paid $23 for a ticket but it was totally worth it. We saw Oz the Great and Powerful in 3D and the seats were huge and electrical. You could lie down watching the movie. You had a button and if you pressed it a waiter came and took an order from you. I orderred caramel popcorn and a soda just because. This whole experience was awesome! And I liked the movie too.

More things that happened today was that I got a little sunburnt. It’s not so bad, but everyone today kept noticing my tan. And it’s just April :).

Tomorrow’s gonna be a long day. First a workout, then a quick visit to a tattoo studio in San Diego, a little shopping and then Karins birthday dinner at Cheesecake Factory. Maybe I’ll skip the gym and start my two-weeks-by-myself on Sunday!

PT #3

According to my PT I have to change my diet. I eat way too much carbs and I don’t see how I can change that. The only thing I can change a little is breakfast and lunch. So I did som shopping now after the gym, bought a lot of fruits/berries, cottage cheese and more bread with less carbs. If I just keep thinking about that for a while I will probably start losing weight for real.

Now I have two programs that I should alternate between every other day. So for these next two weeks I will try it out and then get my last appointment where he will tell me how to continue so I see as much progress as possible. He has told me some already, but it’s too much to think about, so I think he will write it down for me.

After school I went to the Swedish School with the kids and the mom for the first time since I got here. It was very nice, I met Karin and Jessica there and we could sit out in the sun while the kids were learning about Sweden.

I had to go home a little earlier though because Vasoula wanted to take me with her to a class at LA Fitness; Hip Hop dance. It was super hard, but she said that I was really good for my first time. I don’t think I will do that again though, it was more choreography than dancing calories off. So on Monday I’m gonna try Zumba with her. I think that’s more for me if I want to lose weight. Zumba is focusing on dancing instead of how to dance.
