Tsambika

I had written so much text, and then my computer crashes and this one time, Word doesn’t give me the option to open an unsaved document. Stupid computer!!

I won’t write all that again, but will do a short summary since it is really late and I am tired and have to get up super early tomorrow.

I am bad at doing relaxing vacations, I am tired, so today we spent the whole day at Tsambika where we lay on the beach, reading all day. It was warm, so we spent a lot of time in the water. We snorkeled only once since the water was rougher today than it has been. We found a cave, but didn’t go in because we didn’t want to rip us up when the waves would have pushed us against the sharp rocks.

I finished the last book in I am Number Four Series “United as One” and I feel sad. 7 books and 15 companion books are over. Because of this I decided today to expand my blog and make a travel/book review blog.

We had dinner at a restaurant here at the hotel. Fancy pancy Asian food which was delicious.

Now it is late, so no pictures from yesterday will be posted today, but will be uploaded tomorrow (it takes time to go through lots of photos, especially from a dive).

Goodnight for the last time from Rhodes.

Scuba Diving

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my travels. This full post can be found here.

My 8th dive ever was in Anthony Quinn Bay here on Rhodes. 50 Euro for everything, all gear rented and a boat dive. Crazy cheap! It was also so warm in the water that a shortie 2.5mm wetsuit was needed. Crazy! Jesper doesn’t have a certification yet so he had to wait at the beach. That was too bad. Until next trip he definitely has to have gotten it. There was not super much to see like it was in San Diego, but it was nice to do it again since it was almost a year ago I did it last time. Good to maintain the skill. We found lots of snorkeling masks, a sunbed table and a sunken boat along ancient Greek vases and stuff and fish. When we took our safety stop, we fed fishes, there were tons of them just centimeters from our faces.

After the dive we drove to Tsambika where we spent a few hours on the right side of the beach. We had sunbeds there and included in the price were two slushees. That was so needed in the heat. The snorkeling was not as good on the right side as on the left, so we will probably spend all of tomorrow (our last day!!) at the left side tomorrow.

We left at 6pm to go to Lindos so we would have time to get to the Akropolis. We followed the trail of donkeys which you could pay to ride one up. We walked, it wasn’t too bad. The acropolis was really cool. Much was restorated, and I hope they will restore more, I am sure it would look incredible. We walked down to the village, which is the cutest village ever. We found the best restaurant and had a really really good dinner there. It was called Stefany’s and was a family-owned restaurant with tables on 3 different roof levels. I loved that restaurant!

IMG_20160708_185545 IMG_20160708_184503 IMG_20160708_184546 IMG_20160708_185014 IMG_20160708_185047 IMG_20160708_185327 IMG_20160708_190219 IMG_20160708_191232 IMG_20160708_190448 IMG_20160708_190836 IMG_20160708_191953 IMG_20160708_191316 IMG_20160708_192557 IMG_20160708_193459 IMG_20160708_193800 PANO_20160708_184506 IMG_20160708_205625 PANO_20160708_195053 IMG_20160708_211603 IMG_20160708_212930 IMG_20160708_213307 The handmade jewelry in Lindos was so cute!

We walked through the village and then drove back to Tsambika where we went for a late night swim. It was 10:30pm, very dark, and star-clear sky. There was a party going on at one side of the beach, but we were at the other side and enjoyed the warm evening under the stars. It was nice!

Now it is super late because of all our shenanigans today, so I will post pictures tomorrow. Here is one from on top of the akropolis though: Lindos Akropolis on Google Maps

Butterflies, Epta Piges, snorkeling, and Old Town

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my travels. This full post can be found here.

Wow, what a day! 17,000 steps AND two snorkeling dives on top of that. I am so exhausted and probably am suffering from some minor sunstroke. We weren’t out in the sun that much today, but still Jesper got more red on his shoulders. It’s unbelievable how strong the sun is here. We didn’t leave the hotel until after 11:30 am after enjoying the delicious breakfast. Our first stop of the day was The Valley of Butterflies. We decided to take Prasonisi another day. It was nice to be under the trees, but it was still very hot and humid, every body part was sweaty. It was not as many butterflies as I expected, but some tree trunks and stones were well-covered in them. There were also crabs running around in the water. At the top of the valley was a monastery and we quickly looked at it and went back down and drove on to the next stop of the day, Epta Piges = Seven Springs. On our way there we drove through a super cute village, Psinthos. I didn’t have time to take pictures, so you should google it if you want to know what it looked like.

Here is also a link to the 360 picture I took at Epta Piges: Epta Piges on Google Maps

IMG_20160705_122141 IMG_20160705_122024 IMG_20160705_122642 IMG_20160705_122932 IMG_20160705_123135 IMG_20160705_124144 IMG_20160705_124331 IMG_20160705_131257IMG_20160705_130938IMG_20160705_131155

Epta Piges is a really cool place in the forest where water runs out of the mountain. There is a very long and small tunnel which we walked through. So as of today, both of us are 7 years younger because when you walk through it that happens. So yeah, I am 18 again, just so you know. We hung out for a bit, had lunch at the nice restaurant there and then drove to the beach. We were so eager to get there! It was extremely hot today!!

IMG_20160705_142059 IMG_20160705_142144 IMG_20160705_142525 IMG_20160705_142801 IMG_20160705_143205 PANO_20160705_143211 IMG_20160705_145050 IMG_20160705_145528 IMG_20160705_145009 IMG_20160705_150142 IMG_20160705_150145

We drove on to Anthony Quinn Bay which was the cutest little bay. There was pretty much no room for us on the beach since it was so small and full of sunbeds. So we just left our stuff on a rock and went straight into the water to snorkel around for a bit. I don’t know how long we were in, but we saw some pretty cool stuff. One of the first things we saw was a moray. It was tiny, but was flashing his teeth when I came close. That was really really cool! We saw lots of fish too and some sea cucumbers. It was a nice snorkeling time. Right after we were done, we walked up and over the small ridge to the bay on the other side, Ladiko Bay. We snorkeled there for a bit too, didn’t see too many things there, but there were many bearded fire worms a white tufted worm. We also saw some long and brown sausages, but I have no idea what that was.

Our last stop was Old Town in Rhodes city. We walked around for a little bit and then we had dinner and walked around some more. It was so hot that we barely could eat. Even if we both were starving. We will probably go back to Old Town tomorrow again, it is big and we didn’t see it all today.

Tsambika

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my travels. This full post can be found here.

Today was as good as yesterday, and even more. We woke up in the same executive suite, so that was not a dream, good! We then realized that the breakfast buffet was the best ever. We had some troubles getting out of bed this morning so we didn’t pick up the car until 11am when we had reserved it from 10am. But not sleeping more than 2 hours for 35 hours had its toll on us.

I drove us down to Tsambika in our small, red Toyota Aygo. I hate driving it so Jesper will probably drive for the rest of the week. Stupid car. The beach did not look like it did 13 years ago. Now it was full of sunbeds and so many watersports thingies (more than last time) and cafés. We walked to the most right of the beach where no people were. It was also close to the wall so we could see something when we snorkeled. The sand was hot, it was so so so hot! It didn’t just burn, it burned like hell! So we put our towels as close as we could to the water and since it was also very warm in the air, maybe 32 Celsius, so we were probably more in the water than on land. It was impossible to stay on land for a longer time. I am not sure that I will finish the book I am currently reading, we are not really lying down that much, haha!

We did use lots and lots of sunscreen, we put on 50+ at least every other hours, but we still managed to get burned non our backs. It might be because we went snorkeling for 1.5h straight. With aloe vera it should be fine soon.

Around 6pm we left the beach and drove up to the monastery above the beach. Of course, the road doesn’t go all the way up, there are 300 stairsteps to the top. It was tough, but the view was worth it!

IMG_20160704_183252 IMG_20160704_183536 IMG_20160704_183531 IMG_20160704_183559 IMG_20160704_183807 IMG_20160704_183817 hdr_00015_0  Here is a 360 degree picture from the top.IMG_20160704_184539  The monastery at the top.IMG_20160704_184604 IMG_20160704_185821 IMG_20160704_185941 IMG_20160704_185914 PANO_20160704_185115 PANO_20160704_184435

Then we drove to Kolympia where we had dinner at a very nice fish restaurant right next to the water. We did some shopping in that city as well and then drove back to our fancy hotel suite where the Jacuzzi tub was waiting for us. It was really nice to sit there and relax a bit.

IMG_20160704_193028  It was such a romatic restaurant. A little too bad we didn’t stay longer because the lanterns weren’t visible when it was still light out.IMG_20160704_200854 IMG_20160704_204406 IMG_20160704_214157

It is really late now and we have an adventurous day ahead of us tomorrow. The hottest day this week is going to be tomorrow, so we were thinking that it would be best to drive down to Prassonissi where it is really windy, and then spend the afternoon at the Butterfly forest and the Seven Springs and later in the evening, the Old City in Rhodes city. I am thinking that since both the Butterfly forest and Seven Springs is in shadows, it seems like a good idea on the hottest day. The Seven Springs also has ice cold water.

Goodnight!

I am sorry readers, I will get better at updating this thing again. I promise I will try at least!

This weekend is a long weekend (President’s Day on Monday) and I decided it was long overdue to go down to Carlsbad and visit my former hostfamily. As soon as I got here I realized I needed this getaway very badly. I got so happy when I started to recognize everything, and when I came to the house, saw my old room looking exactly like it did when I lived there, my hostmom, and the day after the kids. I am happy here and I am so glad I came down this weekend!

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Yesterday I woke up at 8am to have breakfast with my hostmom and the kids (my host dad was on a business trip up until today) and then went to San Diego Zoo Safari Park. I never went when I was here in 2013 (which was stupid when I had a membership). But I got 50% off, so it was not big deal. And it was a very nice day with the family. The weather was amazing, probably 85F, it was still a little bit breezy and we saw a lot of animals. Seeing animals make me happy. We saw a baby rhino that was born on November 27th last year, it weighed 159lbs then. It was super cute. We saw a lot of other “safari” animals like cute lemurs, all the savannah animals, one of the last five White Rhino’s in the world, tigers, and bats. And of course a lot of other animals too. It was a great day! Too bad the boy rolled in some kind of nettles and got rashes all over his body. Poor kid, but he was a champ and didn’t complain at all. He got a cream and it made it all go away very fast.

When we came home I took a nap for a couple of hours while they went to a beach party for one of the girl’s friends’ birthday. Then the plan was to study, but I just couldn’t find the motivation.

Beach and surf and sun

Today was all about the beach and an old au pair friend from my year here in Carlsbad. We met up at La Jolla Shores Beach, so many people, so it was hard to find parking. My old car (my silver Volvo V70) was here and for me to use this weekend. Very nice of my hostparents to let me use it. SD is bigger than SLO, and without a car here you can’t do anything. I met three of Johanna’s Swedish friends and they were all very nice and we had a nice day together at the beach.  We went in the water pretty early on, it couldn’t have been much more than 60F, but with the 90F (or something) in the air it was not hard at all going all the way in. It was refreshing. I love the ocean! And it is February! I love California! I love the sun! In the afternoon four of us put on wetsuits and went out to surf for a while with one of the guys in charge of the tent renting out wetsuits and surfboards for free and giving free lessons. It was the best surf session I have ever had. I caught almost every wave I try to catch and even if I didn’t stand up every time I still feel very satisfied and proud of myself. A few times I actually managed to stand up all the way in to the shore, which has never happened before! I don’t think I have ever stood up for more than 3 seconds before and today I did so much better than that almost every time I stood up. I am pretty sure I stood up more today in the hour I was out than in my whole life up until this point. So exhilarating! The last wave of the day was the best one and I drove home smiling like never before. In my old car, good music on the radio, singing, smiling, with the sunset in the west. It was a good, normal day (I don’t like Valentine’s Day, and it has nothing to do with relationship status, it is just a stupid commercial holiday when companies want to earn money, I learned today that Bulgarians celebrate wine on this particular day, I will start doing that too, wine is good).

Au-pairing again

My hostparents went out on a date tonight while I stayed in with the kids. Just like old times and I really enjoyed it! We started the evening with watching a movie called Step Dogs, the girl braided my hair in a very cool way, she also baked chocolate chip cookies (some kind of dessert on this “special” day felt needed), the boy played with the 7 month old Portugese Waterdog puppy they have. Then the three of us played the game I got them for Christmas, Totally Gross. It was a fun game where kids learn fun and interesting science facts. And when you earned points you stretched your slime clump from your characters nose, haha! The kids loved the booger/slime.

It is after 1am and I still haven’t started studying. I suck so bad! I am embarrassed by myself for being this bad at studying. But it is hard to find motivation when you are not sure what it is you have to do. Tomorrow evening! I will turn off all my social media devices and just study when the kids have gone to bed!!

If I will be able to wake up at 8 tomorrow I should probably go to bed now. I am not catching up on sleep at all this weekend, haha! Goodnight! And I promise to start this spiderweb of a blog up again!

IMG_20150211_152548 After my infection/cold or whatever it was, my left wrist got filled with liquid and started hurting like never before in the beginning of this week. When it was at its worse I couldn’t move it the tiniest bit. The doctor told me to rest it and that it could take up to 2 months for it to go away. But luckily it is almost 100% restored today, four-five days later. It still hurts when I flex it to the max, but I could surf today without any problems. I have to go back in two weeks for a check up though. Hope it is all good then!IMG_20150211_193005 On Wednesday I went out to the restaurant on Avila Pier with Jason and after dinner we watched the big fat sea lions under the pier. They are way bigger than they appear to be. This one was withing touching limit and probably as big as a three seat couch. A little bit scary. There were also normal grey seals and an otter swimming in the water. A starry night at the ocean was very nice.IMG_20150213_115220 IMG_20150213_120359 Baby rhino!IMG_20150213_122207 Bats are actually kinda cute.IMG_20150213_131743 Lemurs are adorably cute!IMG_20150213_132950 IMG_20150213_134853 One of the five last White Rhino’s in the world. New shoes

This post used to contain pictures, but due to new storage limitations from WordPress, I had to fix the problem and decided to create a new blog that works as an archive for all the posts from my two years in California. This full post can be found here.

It is the day after Halloween, most people were hungover but there were still a lot of people at the library. On a Saturday… It was a bit sad going there, but it was fun being there with Kelsey and dark-haired Cody (there’s a blonde one too). I did get work done, I wrote about one page on my Field Trip paper.

Walked back home after a few hours, talked to Lauren for a while and then wrote some more. At 8pm me, Kelsey and Lauren went downtown to meet up with the fourth, Rachel, and we had dinner at Habit. Really good burgers and sweet potato fries.

On our way to the car we stopped at Ross and I found two pair of shoes that I accidently bought. What’s good about Ross is that it is very cheap, and I kinda wanted to have high-heels. Converse isn’t that pretty when you go out. I am still looking for sandals, but those are hard to find in the stores now since it’s “fall and going towards winter”. I still want my sandals. Maybe I should look on Amazon. They have everything! And I am gonna order some things from there tomorrow or maybe the day after. I am gonna buy a GoPro (I think I said that before), snorkeling gear, and a garlic peeler. I might as well add a cute pair of sandals.

This morning when I woke up my sinuses hurt. I have been sneezing this whole day. I really don’t wanna get sick again. I just got non-sick! I hope it will be better tomorrow. Because tomorrow’s the big soccer game!
