Varsity Wetlands Tree Planting

Mikael and I did something good for both nature and our mental wellbeing this weekend: we planted trees!

City of Gold Coast, through the NaturallyGC program, hosted a tree plating event this weekend at Varsity Wetlands which Mikael and I, and two of my former colleagues attended. They do a bunch of free activities to involve the community in conservation efforts. We attended one of their workshops the weekend before where SeaWorld Foundation presented what they do for conservation and animal rescues and next weekend we are going on a bird photography walk. This weekend was all about bush regeneration and planting trees.

It was so well organised, great instructions, there were young kids doing their best, 640 plants done in 2h from 30 volunteers.

The weather was perfect, even though we did have second thoughts when it was POURING when we woke up. But this is SEQ, you can trust that the weather will change at least twice more that day. The rain in the morning made the soil easier to work with but it was still try enough that we didn’t get too dirty.

Will definitely do again!
