Q1

On mom’s second to last day down under, we took the elevator up to the observation deck in Australia’s tallest building, Q1, to watch the sunset.

Being high up is always fascinating. Especially now when we’ve gotten to know our home a bit better than last time we went almost a year ago. The sun set beautifully behind the hinterlands mountains and we got to see Gold Coast come alive with the lights. Not that there are many lights here compared to in Sweden. Because even if this is a large city, or whatever to call it, there are not many streetlights, making the starry sky always visible on cloudless nights. That was not possible in Sweden. I appreciate that darkness. But I do miss properly seeing where I’m going at night. And I really dislike that despite this darkness, NO ONE, and I mean no one wears reflectors to be visible to cars. It’s so dangerous!

We probably should have brought binoculars this time of the year to spot whales. Next time! They apparently do have whale watching from up there during winter months.

Down on the ground, we had dinner at Grill’d in Surfers and afterward ice cream at Messina. In that square, we found a flying fox hanging around in one of the palm trees. It was so close and absolutely adorable! They are cute little fluffy flying puppies.
