Australia Zoo

A day spent at Australia Zoo is never not a day well spent. Even if it was a bit chilly and very windy.

Robert was unfortunately not on the show this day at the Crocoseum, but still a great and educational experience as always.

These two devils were absolutely knackered. Adorable!
Dragons everywhere! Can you spot these two in the freshwater turtle enclosure?
Ever since mom arrived 5.5 weeks ago, we’ve been chasing kookaburras. We finally got to see one up close (rather than being taunted by their laughs in the distance). And it’s at Australia Zoo while we are sitting down for lunch.
What’s going on inside these little meerkats’ heads? Were they chasing birds?
All-time favourite: the red panda! It was scratching its butt on the branch when it was walking back and forth across it.
I’ve yet to see a wild echidna to be honest. I did see one dead beside the M1 once, but that doesn’t count. How can ALL animals down under be so special?

This daily show at the Crocoseum always gets to me. I am so happy that Robert Irwin himself was there for Mikael and mine’s first visit last year. This time around, when mom joined, was as good though. The informative video clips of Steve and Terri explaining how to deal with a snake bite with the dangerously venomous rope snake, is just hilarious, while at the same time could save your life one day. It really breaks my heart that Steve was taken from this earth way too soon.

I honestly believe that the very last moment of this day was the best. I don’t know if this is a daily routine for these otters, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more adorable. And I mean, otters themselves are one of the cutest animals there is as they are. But when they were running around and squeaking and posing and yawning, I might be so bold as to claim that my heart almost melted as much as mom’s. We were there, taking millions of photos, until we were pretty much kicked out of the park :).

As always, a quick visit to the wildlife hospital where they were treating a turtle.
A really beautiful day started with the sunrise over the horizon down in Gold Coast. Then cruising in our new Volvo XC90 up to Sunny Coast, a full day at the Zoo and then back home again.
