Coombabah

I have many favorite places in Gold Coast. And I will probably have as many more in the coming years as I’ve still only seen a fraction of this incredible place. But one of those places will always be Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area.

This day’s accumulations are as follows:

  • 5 koalas
  • 2 tawny frogmouths
  • Very few kangaroos
  • and a water dragon
Number one.

During mom’s visit in Australia, I believe I might have gotten her to love Coombabah as well. I can’t even remember how many times we went there, but probably three times? This time was a bit special, because I managed to spot 2 tawnies and mom managed to spot a koala before even I saw it.

Number two.
And in the tree next to the second koala was a tawny frogmouth. There were a couple of tourist next to us and when I told them about the frogmouth, they got so excited which made me happy. It’s not just koalas that are awesome here.
Number three.
First dragon in Coombabah. I wonder why we never saw any previously?
I think ducks have been here.
Number four.
And mambo number five.

I can’t remember ever seeing so few kangaroos in this area previously. I’ve been there so many times, spread out throughout the year, and I’ve seen hundreds on occasion, and also as few as approximately twenty or so. But this day, we probably only saw a handful! So strange.

We also saw many many kookaburra’s hiding in the trees which was great.

And lastly, the most impressive find of the day: the second tawny frogmouth! I still can’t believe I actually found this hidden in the tree.

For reference: from afar.
