It was a really beautiful late August winter day in Brisbane. I had gotten all three of us tickets to Smash Into Pieces in Brisbane long before mom arrived in Australia without really thinking of the consequences of going to a concert in Brisbane on a Sunday when we were both working on the Monday. So worth it though.
Mom and I started the day by walking through Queensland Museum where I realised that there is an upper level. Mikael and I completely missed that the last time we went there. While we were looking at dinosaurs and taxidermied birds, Mikael relaxed in the sauna to last the full day.
After the museum, we walked around on Southbank and later took the CityCat to the Botanical Gardens.

Then came the reason why we drove (as the trains were off due to track closures – no surprise there) all the way to Brisbane on a Sunday for an event which didn’t even start until 8pm (which is normal bedtime at our place usually): Smash Into Pieces first ever tour in Australia. The Swedish band have been going on for quite a while, and I am happy that I got to witness their first visit ever in Australia. I think they got popular with the masses when they were in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 with their song Six Feet Under. I had no idea. I just heard the song and thought it was amazing and have listened to their every new release since. I honestly think it was this year that I realised they were in Eurovision.

The Brightside was a fairly small venue in Fortitude Valley. Very cosy, very close to the action. Not too hot. People behaved, it was a good atmosphere and I am very happy with the whole evening.
The opening act was a fairly heavy band from Adelaide, Heartline. Mikael and really enjoyed them, but I could tell that my mom was a bit skeptical. It was hilarious. But she did seem to enjoy the main act. Which we all did. It was a great evening and a reminder that Sweden creates so much good music!
