Harry Potter – A Forbidden Forest Experience

It was the first Friday of mom’s visit down under. It was raining. Tickets had been booked months in advance. They were rather expensive. No turning back.

And what a great evening it turned out to be!

Harry Potter – A Forbidden Forest Experience was definitely cool.

The rain was pretty much pouring down. We drove in the pitch darkness for an hour, on small road up to Sirromet Winery in south Brisbane. I almost wanted to turn around, but with three umbrellas, two ponchos, and a Lundhags rain set, we had an amazing time. The rain only enhanced the full experience of wandering through the forbidden forest and glimpses of story from all movies.

Before even entering the forest, we noticed something by the Moaning Myrtle porta potties: a wallaby casually blending in among soo many people.
Before entering the forest, there was the village. Merch was sold, food was indulged. But most importantly: butterbeer was tried for the first time!
Mikael didn’t like his $12 butterbeer, gave it to me, and two was definitely 1.5 too many. Slightly disappointed to be honest. It tasted like caramel soda, if that’s a thing?

They had done a really good job at lighting the forest up. It was beautiful with all lights showing off the trees and HP things all around the 1.5km track. We got so wet, we got so muddy, but still enjoyed ourselves.

We are definitely in Australia

There were a lot of places where you could interact, probably mostly for kids, or grown ups who wanted to stay in line in the rain and not even looking cool when bowing to a hippogriff or dueling with wands.

There were also lots of magical creatures from the Fantastic Beasts movies, like the nifflers and bowtruckles. Hedwig was also there, unicorns and spiders as well.

All in all, it was a great evening, the rain just made the experience so much more realistic. The mud I could have skipped. Poor Mikael’s fancy white Lacoste shoes… Don’t really know what made him decide to wear those when he knew it was raining when we left home.

Apparently, this event was so popular that they extended the duration. When I booked the tickets during the pre-sale, I booked the last weekend (mom’s first weekend here) so mom could join. But later, I realised that so many more dates had been added.
