MIL’s last day in Australia

Elise’s last day in Australia after visiting us for six weeks came and went so fast. It was not without issues though, but we managed to turn a rather problematic situation into our advantage 😊

Mikael’s mom was not happy to go back home to Sweden. I totally understand why. Leaving 30C and sun for the darkest and coldest time in the north sounds awful. But six weeks was over and it was time for a goodbye. We all helped her pack the night before so we could spend her last morning with a coffee on the beach. I even had time to go in the water. No dolphins though, they don’t seem to be too common. But all good so far.

We headed back at 9am to pack up the last things and drive up to Brisbane Airport. Just as we get back home, I receive a text message from Qantas telling me that the flight from Brisbane to Singapore has been delayed 3h. That’s bad. But surely Qantas would book a new trip if a connection was missed due to a delay? No? We spent an hour on the phone with them asking them to book a new trip for her. After several options we finally had a new ticket booked for 9pm through Dubai instead.

Nothing bad which doesn’t come with the good; she received a bonus day in Australia. What is there to do for a few hours in Gold Coast on the last day down under? See kangaroos and koalas of course. Coombabah was on the way north as well.

Koala number 1.
Koala number 2.
Koala number 3.
A joey which was left in a tree while the mother got some quality alone-time.
Not too many kangaroos today unfortunately. But we were there during midday when they are hiding in the shade because of the heat.
We both heard and saw several kookaburras. Their laugh is definitely something special.
Koala number four.
Four is not too bad on such a short day.
Tawny Frogmouth Owls aren’t too common to see, but here we saw two sitting close together.
Shortly after, we also saw this one sitting on a low-hanging branch.

The day eventually came to an end and we dropped Elise off at Brisbane Airport. It has been empty since she left and it is good to know that it doesn’t get crowded in our two bedroom unit if more people want to come visit us one day 🥰
