I haven’t done too many hikes in my life, well a few. But Warrie Circuit in Springbrook National Park was definitely one of the best ones. Hot tips: Go after a period of heavy rain to lose count of how many waterfalls you see.
Don’t forget to scroll down to the very end of the post to see a couple of videos that I filmed and edited, almost all by myself (Mikael the pro helped of course).
After a heavy rainfall, Mikael, his mom, and a new friend of ours, Oliver (Swede/Canadian/Australian), went searching for water falls in the Gold Coast hinterlands. I’ve been wanting to get out there for so long and see another type of nature compared to all the sandy beaches we usually see. Now it was finally time! And why start with the easiest trail?
Oliver has been hiking a lot in South East Queensland in the 7 years he has lived here and gave us our first rain forest experience. We had no real expectations, except that I would have thought it was really cool to see a big python, but no snakes. A few spiders, but nothing too exciting. Not too much wildlife at all to be honest if you don’t count the deafening cicadas that screeched insanely loudly throughout the day.

Warrie Circuit is 14km roundtrip, starting up high, twisting its way down into the valley and then up again on the other side. Starting point is Twin Falls Walk Start and goes either way, but we did counter-clockwise so we had Twin Falls at the end and got a well deserved dip in the pool beneath the falls. It was so cold but really nice! And no leeches as it had been along the path so far. I don’t mind wildlife, but leeches creeped my out, even if they were tiny.
The reward of going for a swim wasn’t really that necessary to be honest though, the rainforest was cool, 25C, when the coast was around 30C, and since it had been raining a lot, the trail was wet and we were pretty much soaked through all the 5.5h hike. Our feet were raisins when we were done, haha!

The jungle was really impressive and dense. Intricate tree formations. Water flowing everywhere. Cliffs and caves. Massive greenery. Cicadas and birds.
The trail was narrow at times and the way was long down to the bottom of the valley.
And lastly, I have made my very first attempt at video and editing and here are my first two short videos to capture this incredible day.
